After months of speculation about her political career, Sue Carlson officially called it quits.
The two-term Brevard County commissioner who spent the past eight years advocating for stronger growth controls, new money for roads and environmental protection announced Tuesday that she won't seek a third term.
Rumors that Carlson wouldn't run created a glut of 8 candidates for the District 4 seat she's occupied since 1998. A forum with all candidates is scheduled for Thursday night.
"She will be really missed," said Maureen Rupe, a community and environmental activist from Port St. John. "She's very popular and a champion for managed growth. She's done a lot of things. My fear is who's going to fill the void."
